Hi, my name is Nikhil (he/him/his). I’m a student at the University of Chicago majoring in public policy and South Asian studies. I’m interested in:

  • South Asian history, politics, poetry, etc.
  • Social justice, particularly in connection to religion (I’m a member of Sadhana Coalition of Progressive Hindus)
  • South Asian music (especially Carnatic music, but also Hindustani, qawwali, and of course Bollywood…)
  • History of languages, and connections between different languages. I’m currently learning Persian (Farsi), and I also have varying degrees of competency in Telugu, Hindi, Urdu, French, Arabic, and Sanskrit. I’ve learned how to read and write Tamil, Bengali, and Korean as well.

Thanks for checking out my blog, please contact me if you have any questions/comments/just want to talk! Feel free to follow me on Twitter or shoot me an email at nikhiletcblog@gmail.com.

  1. I read your article on padams and devadasis. I would like to send you an article from the Hindu about a lecture that our guru Smt. Alarmel Valli rendered at Krishnaghana Sabha in chennai. I am enjoying several of your articles, esp the hindusthani music and Muslims.
